Nahi, the black thread idea is really good,
but there are atleast a few women who like the hijab if not the burkha; because they genuinely believe in the things said in the Quran, not just because of blind faith but because they have either been brought up to love and respect the teachings or simply because they have studied it themselves and want to follow the teachings. And I personally know a few.
And at the same time, the purdah system has, since the Mughal times applied even in Hindu societies.
So it may not be correct to relate burkhas to purdah system or lack of freedom.

  3. Kusha, that's true... But I think Vishakha's point is that a lot of them are never even given the freedom to choose whether they like it or not or have faith or not.

  4. the idea of purdah is restriction of freedom and seclusion from the outside world, no matter they have faith in it or not. Anyways they'll have to follow the system.
